The library
Recipes, written to be cooked from.
We are writing a library of cafe recipes: the story behind each dish, the ingredients in exact quantities, and the method, so a kitchen can cost a dish and cook it the same way every time.
How every recipe is written
The same card, every time.
So you always know where to look, and so a kitchen can cost a dish before it cooks it. Every recipe in the library has these seven parts, in this order.
- 01
The dish
Its name, what kind of dish it is, one line about it, and the diet mark: veg, egg, non-veg or vegan.
- 02
The numbers
Prep, cook and total time, what it makes, and whether it is made at the bar or in the kitchen. The total is added up, never guessed.
- 03
Diet and allergens
Every allergen the dish contains, marked, and a badge that says they have been checked.
- 04
Ingredients
Exact grams and millilitres, one line each, grouped by the part of the dish they belong to.
- 05
Equipment
What the cook needs to hand before starting.
- 06
Method
Numbered steps, one action each, with its minutes and where it is done.
- 07
The chef's note
One short note: the mistake to avoid, or how to hold the dish.
- Checked before it is published. A recipe cannot go on the site without its diet, its allergens marked as checked, and its quantities in grams and millilitres.
- The times add up. The minutes on the steps are the prep and cook time on the card, so nothing is quietly left out.
- One action to a step. A step is a sentence you can read between tickets, never a paragraph.
